Melbourne is set to host an Irish party at the MCG, for its clash with the reigning premiers in Round 6.
As the Irish community around the world celebrates St Patrick’s Day today, Melbourne is delighted to announce Jim’s Game will be returning to the MCG on Sunday April 19 to raise funds for the Jim Stynes Foundation.
An acknowledgement of Club Legend Jim Stynes as well as a broader celebration of Irish culture, the second iteration of this event will see an Irish explosion throughout the precinct.
The day will include a taste of Gaelic football in Yarra Park, dancing, Irish food and drinks, and the return of the popular ‘Jim’s Jig’ after each goal.
Playing 264 games for the Demons across 12 seasons, Stynes remains the only non Australian-born VFL/AFL player to win the Brownlow Medal.
The four-time Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Medallist also furthered his legacy through incredible off field work, which included co-founding The Reach Foundation.
As part of today’s announcement, the club is launching Jim’s Cap which is now available for pre-sale via the Jim Stynes Foundation website.
All proceeds made from this cap will be donated to the Jim Stynes Foundation.
The added significance of the cap is that Stynes famously wore a cap during the Demons’ Round 1 match-up with Geelong in 1994.
Set for the Demons’ Round 6 clash with Brisbane, Jim’s Game will coincide with the first time the Lions return to the ‘G since winning last year’s Grand Final.
To ensure a strong Irish presence at the game, the club invites anyone who presents an Irish passport on the day to enter the ground for free as part of the celebration. Stay tuned for further details on this offer.
