The Melbourne Football Club (MFC), Jim Stynes Foundation (JSF) and the Indigenous Eye Health Unit (IEHU) partner in the promotion of eye health with the help of the IEHU mascot ‘Milpa’. Promoting the message of ‘clean face, strong eyes’ serves to create awareness of trachoma and promote the importance of facial cleanliness and good hygiene to stop trachoma and other infections.
MFC and IEHU began working together in 2009/2010 with the shared goal of providing health promotion messages in support of the elimination of trachoma to Aboriginal communities in Central Australia and the Northern Territory.
The Jim Stynes Foundation (JSF) is now joining the fight against preventable blindness by partnering with the IEHU to provide access remote communities via programs combining football activities with an overlay of health promotion.
